2017 KTM 125 SX Highlights

This is a very big day for two-stroke fans. KTM announced the world’s biggest line of two-stroke motocross and off-road bikes, including some complete redesigns as well as a model that has never been sold before. The platform for the new 250SX motocrosser is used for 300XC and 250XC off-road racers as well as 300XC-W and 250XC-W trail bikes. The 125 motocross motor introduced last year has now spawned a 150XC-W off-road model and is again available as a 150 MX bike. Here are the specifics from KTM:

2017 250 XC Highlights

NEW 249 cc engine features an all new architecture with a new shaft arrangement for better mass centralization NEW cylinder with twin-valve controlled power valve for smooth power that can be adjusted within seconds for different track conditions NEW lateral counter balancer reduces engine vibrations for less rider fatigue at the end of the race NEW reworked 6-speed transmission shifts easier with more precision Hydraulically operated DDS clutch features a damping system for better traction and durability NEW 38mm Mikuni TX carburetor for smoother and more controllable power delivery. It is also less sensitive to altitude and temperature changes NEW lightweight Chromoly steel frame provides high torsional rigidity with less longitudinal stiffness resulting in excellent handling and energy absorption NEW Tuned exhaust pipe for maximum power output NEW WP AER 48 front fork with a sophisticated air spring design and separate damping for easy adjustment to any track condition, rider weight or skill level is tuned specifically for off-road competition. The fork is now 3.1 pounds lighter than the 4CS unit it replaces NEW rear suspension settings and softer rear spring are perfectly matched to the WP AER 48 front fork NEW top triple clamp supports the new flex characteristic of the WP AER 48 fork for better action and reduced friction NEW Handlebar clamps feature a separated lower clamp and bridge-type upper clamp for more torsional stiffness NEW 10mm longer rear brake pedal and less aggressive brake pads provide better modulation and control KTM’s “No Dirt” footpeg design keeps the pegs pivot from becoming clogged, ensuring the footpeg is always in the correct position. Super lightweight Galfer Wave rotors, CNC machined hubs, high-end Giant rims and Dunlop GEOMAX AT81 tires Airbox and filter design provides maximum performance with fast “no tools” air filter changes “No Dirt” shift lever prevents dirt from fouling the lever joint to ensure proper shifting in any condition Off-road specific additions such as hand guards, a side stand and a 18” rear wheel ensures the 2017 KTM 250 XC is READY TO RACE

The new two-stroke motor for the 250 and 300 will have a counterbalancer shaft.
