Dan Sheleen Lowe (Supreme Motorsports shop and monkey in the side hack) and Sam Shank (sponsored rider racing BIG 6 AMA and driver in the side hack) just eat, sleep and breathe motorcycles! Let's discover what Daniel has to say about his passion. They would also love to come and ride in Canada. Maybe we could figure it out and organize something one day. We would need Lucien from Evo (ex champion in France for many years in this category) to help us bring this amazing sport around here! Lucien, would you be down?
GMX: Daniel, you are located in the high desert of California, in Hesperia. Do you sometimes ride on snakes or lizards with your bike (laughs)?
DSL: Well, it's forbidden here and against the law actually! So we stray from that as much as possible!

GMX: You are a manager at Supreme Motorsports, what interesting new products are coming for 2016 in your shop?
Is the business doing fine in USA in the industry of MX?
DSL:We are working on all EVS PROTECTION LINE and gear. Managing and owning a shop is tough but it's my passion.
(To our readers, check out for his website:
GMX: You are also helping a lot of upcoming racers with race support and mechanic. Who are these riders and why is it so important for you to help the new blood? Where are their main needs?
DSL: There is literally to many to name but the Rodriguez family and Alessi family are the biggest ones! It's very important to help the young blood because they are the future!

GMX: You are racing motocross, but also racing side hack class at So Cal MX series this year.
How are you doing in your competition? Can you explain to our readers this other discipline of the sport?
DSL: Well, unfortunately, in race 1 my driver blew his knee out and we were unable to finish series. I myself am an intermediate desert racer. I love racing off-road because of the endurance and freedom on the bike. I live in the prime desert for motocross so it's awesome!
GMX: Side hacks seem to be quite homemade. What kind of modifications do you make on your own?
What engine are you pulling? What metal is used on the machine to be light but strong enough in the meantime?

DSL: Yes, some are homemade. But ours is not. It's built overseas and specifically made to race motocross with. We have an XR 650R engine. It's an amazing steel frame with custom fabricated comfort for monkey!
GMX: Can you change positions at times or the monkey stays the monkey and the rider stays the rider?
DSL: The monkey stays monkey and the driver must stay driver, it's very tough to switch because the rider has to learn to ride with monkeys weight...
GMX: Can you explain what is District 37 AMA Side Hack?
DSL: Grand Prix style motocross races.
GMX: What is the main differences between riding a side hack and a motocross?
What determines if you take your bike or your side hack to train in the morning (laughs)?

DSL: Side hack is like very heavy quad with one back wheel (laughs). Well side hack must go on trailer so we usually just train on side hack when needed but where we live we can ride from our house or shop so we ride a lot!!!
GMX: The monkey can be on the left or on the right side of the side hack, how do you determine the position of the cage when you build your side hack?
DSL: Preference when building...
GMX: What kind of language do you use with your riding partner (signs, mic, nothing...?) during the ride?
DSL: we usually just yell at each other (laughs).
GMX: The monkey on the side hack is very vulnerable on the track as he sweeps the dirt, is he getting hurt more easily?
Are you doing all the jumps as MX riders do? It looks so sick!

DSL: Well, I'm the monkey and I've not been hurt yet. But it is very close at times to knocking rocks or berms (laughs). We try to jump all jumps but it is more difficult and that's how my driver hurt his knee.
GMX: On the 29th of August, you had a freestyle MX show with Nate Adams, Jonny Ebenal, Colin Scummy Morrison, a street bike crew will be stunting as well and you had 14 vendors. Is there a public for side hack races? Who are your champions?
DSL: Our first event was amazing and a great turnout. We plan to do more fundraisers for charity and so on in the future. We love giving back to the community and showing how much we care! Without respect for others you will not go far! My champions are Jeremy McGrath and Kurt Caselli for sure. Side hacks are pretty popular in SOCAL because of there history.
Thank you for everything!
